practice together. This drill will work to drill base running scenarios and build up cardio for the players. Multiple coaches are necessary for this drill. One coach should be near home plate with a bat and a few balls. Another coach should be on third. The coach who is at home will begin by hitting a ball.
The first runner stays on first while the second player steps up to the plate. When the ball is hit the runner at first will go to second. This time if the hit is a ground ball, the runner will run directly to second. If the hit is a fly, the runner will go to second base and make eye contact with the coach at third who will then either motion for the runner to continue to third, or hold up at second. Players can cycle through this drill several times.
This is a great simple baseball drill that will help the players condition themselves to look at their coaches and run hard. Putting this base running drill in your weekly practice drill rotation is sure to help your players become better prepared on the bases.
